I was watching Boiling Point the other night and had a sudden hankering for a M&S Custard Tart. It just came over me like a black cloud.

What kind of things does everyone hanker for from the UK now and again? o
Dunno about M&S, but I wouldn't mind some of Mr. Kipling's exceedingly good cakes. Think the apple pies were my favorites,...ah and the cherry bakewells...

In the spirit of the other post -
aH.....they are ever so good :D

A fish supper!!! Has to be haddock, saturated with oodles and oodles of vinegar and real, hand-cut chips with lots of brown sauce. Thanks to the recent pictures posted by Glaswegian ( wink ) my hankering for one has intensified ten-fold! cry
You are welcome, the pleasure is all mine :D Might go for a fish and chips meal with the family on saturday

erm....... chippies have not hand-cut chips for the longest time. They just cut them bigger than American restaurants, but it's still a machine. They have machines to peel them too. And a right bugger to clean they are.
This German guy in Ontario here, cuts it by hand, and you can actually see him doing it, the way the chippie / restaurant is setup

Go on, burst my bubble!
I'll re-phrase then and say as long as they're chunky, British-style 'chippy' chips that'll do for me. I'm not hard to please....................mostly. :P

Aye Aye...I hear ya

I don't care, as long as they're chunky, British-style 'chippy' chips that'll do for me. I'm not hard to please....................mostly. :P

Enjoy!

When I worked in a chippie 25 years ago, the tatties were machine-peeled and chipped. I don't think it was a new thing either.

You have to distinguish between English chips and the vastly superior Scottish ones...

I'm Scottish, but I'm not getting into that one on here.......I'm out-numbered! :P
At this particular point in time I'd settle for (almost) anything that came close to tasting like a fish supper from the chippie. The only (half-decent) alternative I've found here is Crackerbarrel's Friday Fish Fry. If you douse enough vinegar on it, close your eyes and think of Britain, you can almost, with a huge stretch of the imagination, pretend it's from back home. :D
