Here in WNY one of the tv stations has been trumpeting its super-duper doppler radar thingy which can show you weather right down to your house! They spent millions on it without thinking that if you wanna know you can just go outside.

Yes its like that here, particularly in winter when they all become "Storm Central" and stand outside in the snow to tell you its snowing, its cold its wet etc.

Thing is in this part of MA the wether is as changable and unpredictable as in the UK and so for all the money, technology and hype - they still mostly get it wrong

New 3-D television weather forecast graphics began on Monday but the SNP MP for the Western Isles, Angus MacNeil, called for the BBC to think again.

Jesus christ, he's only been an MP for a week.

Ey Up, Manc haven't seen you on this board for a while.
What a waste of money eh  That money could have been spent finding out what the holy grail is, Dan Brown ( The Davinci Code author ) tried, to no avail :D

Or in the case of the US, pumped into a medicare system like Canada and other countries have

I could be wrong, but I think solving America's healtcare crisis (or the underfunding of the NHS for that matter) will cost substantially more than they spend on weather forecast  :D s

In fact, as I recall it can get quite warm on the Western Isles - bizzarrely they get their weather direct fom the Carribean sometimes :o

I believe so, although I hail (excuse the pun :P ) from Central Scotland where the climate is mild. However, I lived in NE Scotland for a few years and I would have to agree with you - it's not difficult to predict the weather in Northern Scotland or the Northern Isles - it sucks...consistently! :(

I was quite impressed when I first came here and the local Oregon stations had 3-D maps that they would pan around the state with and zoom in and out of various locales.

Do they pan that map around in Britain? It sounded like it from the BBC report, in which case, the MP is being a bit of a knob really.

Regards weather in Western Isles, I spent 3 sunshine-filled summers in Lewis and near Skye and we were swimming in the sea, so they must have been importing the good weather from somewhere.

Alright! I'll get around to it. I was *this* close to it this morning, then Paypal needed my credit card details and I couldn't be arsed to find my wallet. :D :P

From what I can tell they do; there was a demonstation on the BBC News site. I'll be in that direction next week so I'll check first hand..... :D
