I seem to be listening to a lot of UK bands at the moment - I've put my current favourites below. Are any of you listening to them?
Bloc Party
Kaiser Chiefs
Kasabian
Doves
Snow Patrol
Athlete
I suppose they all come under the same 'Alternative' bucket, but they are all very different. What has surprised me is how popular they are over here - I wouldn't have expected them to travel that well, but it seems as though Canadians keep their eye on the UK music scene. I went to a Doves concert last night and while the venue wasn't big, it was packed; Snow Patrol are playing on Wednesday, with Athlete supporting (so looking forward to that) and that is sold out apparently as well. It's good to see something other than trite pop coming out of the UK - it's been too long (although trite pop does have it's place as well wink )
/spreading the UK music love
Currently on the playlist
Dizzee Rascal
The Libertines
The Streets
Fatboy Slim
The Scissor Sisters.
Saw Coldplay live a couple of weeks back at the office. Also get the perks that come with an access all areas backstage pass too.

I think Kasabian were around when I first came over here (1998) but I have no clue who the others are.
You'd think I'd do better, working for a college radio station that only plays alternative stuff but their stuff is a bit too alternative for me.

Lucky you. They played at a small venue here last week - tickets sold out in less than 10 mins apparently, and after they'd been sold, you couldn't get one for less than $300 from ebay or people who knew people who knew people.......
I don't recall many tractors in hius videos, he is usually on the beach in the bahamas drinking cocktails  My wife likes that latest cd, and that is why I have it, it's rather good to be honest.
And no.....am a londoner and a big arsenal fan. Roll on saturday

Like your list Cleavem!
Kaiser Chiefs song (Every Day I Love You Less And Less) is great! I hear it on XFM and BBC 6music all the time.
Have you heard anything else by them or are they just a flash in the pan?
Just sent off to the UK for a band called Duke Spirit. A bit more laid back, maybe a bit Throwing Muses-like. I heard them in session on XFM one night and thought they were really good. Strong songwriting.
I love that song too - it's one of my 'Top Rated' on my iPod! I'm not sure about their 'staying power' although I do know that all the music mags are rating them; they are playing at the Mod Club on 29th May I think. I've got their album - Employment - which is pretty good all the way through.
Colplay where in town last week?

The Decemberists
Talking Heads
QOTSA
Supergrass
Asian Dub Foundation
Talvin Singh
Divine Comedy
and of course...
Peter Gabriel

I get to listen to Cleavm's bands locally on FNX -

I usually don't even realize they are British bands until sometime later.
I'm listening to Radio 1 almost constantly during the day. They play a good selection of stuff. I rarely have to turn down the feed because they're playing over-commercial junk like the latest Disneyesque Lindsay Lohan or Mandy Moore clone. Currently have a Chemical Brothers playlist running. Have been listening to a lot of Franz Ferdinand, Snow Patrol, Muse, Keane, The Killers... (I know The Killers are from Vegas but they sound very Brit-inspired).
