Hi

I came to the US on an immigrant visa(my husband is American) a year ago & received an I-551(temp green card) stamp in my passport which is valid for a year. The problem is this is due to expire in 11 days & I still have not received my permanent green card. I have filed several G-731 forms enquiring about the status of my card & have not heard anything from the INS.
Have also called the service center dealing with my application & the only advice they gave me was to go back to England until this is sorted out!!! This is not possible as I am nearly 8 months pregnant & the airlines will not let me fly!!!

Sorry to ramble but I am getting a little worried that the INS will deport me !! Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

Louise
Best advice Get your American husband to call the office of one of your state Senators and/or Representatives. They have people there who can deal directly with the INS. Explain your situation and ask them to help. Those people can get to the INS far more quickly and effectively than you can.

Good luck and try not to worry - you have to concentrate on taking care of that baby. smile
Loubee My son had the same sort of problem as you. His I551 stamp was due to expire, and his green card had not arrived. We could not get any reponse from sending in G-731 forms, so he went to the local INS office, and got a new I551 stamp, good for another year, without any problem. Eventually the green card arrived. The interval between getting the first I551 stamp and the green card was 15 months.
If you can't get any response from the INS by mail, sometimes you have to go in person.
