I wonder if this is the fastest time from final appointment to cards actually arriving. we had our last fingerprint appointment and stamp in passport done three weeks ago and the cards arrived today!

D

Still waiting to hear about eldest's though roll
Blimey!
Heck! It took me 18 months just to get a replacement card. o
Congrats Ben,

Did they send you 10 year cards? Make sure you check up on oldest as once they close your file its a pain in the arse......

Thanks, Zed. The lawyer has sent a letter. I'm hoping it won't take too long. Tried calling but a total waste of time - all they have is what we can get on the net anyway, which doesn't include him having gone for his fingerprints.

Yes, they are 10 year cards. Well, 10 years and a couple of months I think it is.

I still can't get over how quick they have come through.

Perhaps they are improving; one I'd got over the hassle of getting an appointment, my renewed card came through in about three weeks (as opposed to the 6 months they indicated it would take.

As an aside, there was an earlier thread about carrying your card with you. I asked UCIS when I was there. There was no verbal response as such, just some eye rolling - make of that what tou will, but hte wording on the letter that came with the card appears to have changed and lacked the emphatic 'carry your card...it is the law".

THIS IS NOT LEGAL ADVICE - PLEASE DO NOT RELY ON ANYTHING I SAY - IF YOU NEED ADVICE, CONSULT SOMEONE WHO KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT o D
I checked for that too, Rob, and on our letters it said nothing about having to carry it around with you either. Maybe they have changed their tune. But then, the drivers license requirements etc. are changing aren't they. so surely if the right information is needed for them, there shouldn't be any need to carry anything else around with you?

I'm not sure what is going to happen with the driver's licenses; I guess you are referring to the changes that just went through Congress stipulating standards.

Obviously these apply to all drivers (regardless of nationality) - but it remains to be seen whether they are ever enforced, many people think they are unconstitutional (Federal Govt. can't co-opt. State law enforcement).

As to the PR cards, I'm not sure any rules changed, merely that they aren't enforcing them so emphatically. I stopped carrying mine around with me and locked it in the fire safe.

You will still need to have it with you when travelling abroad; and for my part I would carry it with me for any distant/extended trips within the US. If something happens in Boston and I need it someone can bring it to me - if I'm the otherside of the country that is obviously more difficult.

Also I'm a white male, they cut me more slack - if I were a minority, especially from a muslim or middle eastern background, I'd be more cautious.

I have already had a notice through regarding my lack of SSN on their file for my driving license. Because it is due for renewel in August, I just need to get the records sorted for then. Maybe Vermont already knew ;)
