<philosophical_thought>If Adam and Eve did exist, then surely they wouldn't have any concept of eating an animal, especially as Genesis says "Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food." and didn't say anything about eating the 'beasts of the field'</philosophical_thought>

Just a thought. Its still a pretty questionable argument though. I've seen stuff in a similar vein saying that 'Jesus was a vegetarian'.
Genesis 1
28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.

Well, he told them to use the herbs, seeds and fruits for food. And the use of the word "meat" is Old English for food. He also told them not to eat from the tree of knowledge, and they listened well there, didn't they!

On the carnivore side, it also says to "subdue" the earth and have dominion over it. So Genesis 128 allows culling...

Without knowing the OT too well, I am not sure where meat eating begins. Possibly with Cain and Abel

Genesis 4
3 And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD.
4 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering

But at this point, Adam and Eve were still alive.

Like many things that people try to spin in a Biblical fashion, if it's not in there, we don't know!

If he was a vegetarian then what possessed him to turn that trick with the bread and fishes?

Good question. Maybe he's one of those 'fish eating vegetarians' who eat fish but no other form of meat? I never quite understood these people.

Oh yeah, the I'm vegetarian but eat a little chicken every Tuesday and fish doesn't count sort of vegetarian. roll
I think roasted snake was the second thing on Adam and Eve's menu. Right after the apple wink
And then Adam made a rather nifty matching set of snakeskin jeans and matching boots.
