Unfortunately I can believe it. In our area when there is an emergency 911 call all three emergency services come out whether it is warranted or not. Possibly a good idea for the UK too? Along with a zero tolerance policy for those that intefere with emergency service efforts.

I understand the reason for all three emergency crews to come out to a fire is because both firefighters and ambulance workers are volunteers. It's only the police that are paid to do their job. Also, having the police involved generally means they get their first so they can assess the situation on whether the firemen and ambulancemen need to be there a.s.a.p. or whether it is a false alarm.
When you call for an ambulance the police come first too. When my mum fell down our basement stairs (top to bottom) there was a question whether she would need a paramedic ambulance or not. The policewoman came to check that a regular ambulance would be OK because there had been an accident on the highway and the paramedic ambulances from the local area were being used.
I do agree with you, though, Dianey, if this type of thing is going on then the police should be at every call out too and arrests made for any inteference.

All three come out here too - only in our case it's often the fire trucke that arrives first.
I have never heard of violent attacks ofn firemen before - perhaps there is something to be said for the hero-worship of fire-fighters over here.

These stories make me livid. It's enough to turn even the most tolerant liberal into a kill-them-all-and-let-God-sort-them out retributionist.
There ought to be a special cateogory of crime here or at least some sort of penalty enhancement (akin to hate crime legislation).
