Residents of Wisconsin are voting on whether they can legally hunt down and kill free-roaming cats.

"La Crosse firefighter Mark Smith, 48, helped spearhead the cat-hunting proposal. He wants Wisconsin to declare free-roaming wild cats an unprotected species, just like skunks or gophers. Anyone with a small-game license could shoot the cats at will....

Every year in Wisconsin alone, an estimated 2 million wild cats kill 47 million to 139 million songbirds, according to state officials. Despite the astounding numbers, Smith's plan has been met with fierce opposition from cat lovers.

Critics of Smith's idea organized Wisconsin Cat-Action Team and developed a Web site - dontshootthecat.com. Some argue it is better to trap wild cats, spay or neuter them, before releasing them."

I ask for a license to kill* free rooming car haters* and those who heap pain and suffering on these one of the world most bueatifull creatures .

I don't understand people who get their rocks off by shooting animals. Don't we normally find that the sickest members of our society started out by torturing cats and the like?

This law will probably not be passed as you can't have a bunch of rednecks running around shooting cats in Wisconsin.

Why are people so worried about songbirds but not about all the rodents cats kill?
Aren't pretty much all cats, except stay indoors cats, "free roaming"?

Stupid atavistic hunting a holes. Don't tell Texas (or my boss) that I said that.
Cats chase birds....leave them to it. Cats are nicer than birds anyway and maybe it'll cut the crap that lands on my windscreen. Not that I'm anti-bird or anything, I just think there are plenty of "songbirds" making a racket every morning.
