I was just reading on the BBC Sports website about a new book called Deep Into The Forest recalling the glory days at Notts Forest, when under the management of Brian Clough and Peter Taylor Notts Forest had domestic, league and European Cup success for a few years. I'm not a fan of Forest by any means but I thought they had a great team back in the day and now to see them on the verge of relegation its hard to think of how different a team Forest was then compared to now, but there again there's been other clubs who've gone from the old first division with some success to be relegated and to come back??

There's a list here of Forest's famous 14 players -
Stuart Pearce, Des Walker, Trevor Francis, Viv Anderson, Kenny Burns, Larry Lloyd, Nigel Clough, Neil Webb, John McGovern, Garry Birtles, Archie Gemmill, Ian Storey-Moore, Roy Keane, John Robertson

Possibly one of my favourite players there on that list is Archie Gemmill who scored that classic goal for Scotland back in '78. ( http//www.easta.com/archiegemmillgoal.html ) Gary Birtles is definately a classic story of a successful striker who went to Man Utd and went on a goal famine wink For me at least I was suprised that Tony Woodcock wasnt on the list or even Martin O'Neil?

So I wonder if in years to come I'll be overcome with nostalgia about the all conquering Man Utd team of the 90's when theyre on the verge of relegation into the second division??
I'm definately nostalgic... but I'm not that lucky wink

Notts Forest were Leicester City's rivals so I have as much sympathy for them now as I did when I lived in England..........and that aint much wink
How come Peter Shilton didn't make it on to your list? Great keeper, awful manager. Where is he now? I don't think any team would touch him with a bargepole.

Now....which team was it that hammered a rather large nail (0-3) into Forest's coffin at the City Ground last Saturday?

Staying up, staying up, staying up...... D

I won't when the Chelsea circus goes belly up and they are fighting to stay in the 1st. division like their sibling West Ham.

When the Russian guy is put away for the embezzlement of British tax payers money (through swindling the European Bank), they'll make Leeds look like a success.

Hans Van Bruekelen was another great of theirs.

You're forgetting the legendary Jason "Pineapple Head" Lee.

Even Ade Akinbyi was a better striker than him.

I forgot all about Stan Collymore too , what with him being an ex-Palace player and that wink and Pierre Von Hooydonk (sorry about the misspelling) he who went on strike after Kevin Campbell left for Turkey............. (well campbell didnt have a lot of choice I suppose wink )
Always thought Jonny Metod (sp?) the Dutch guy was good
Forest woes continue......
they were relegated today.
By the way theyre going on theyll be playing against Worcester City!! wink
