Well, I found a decent recipe which worked 2nd time around.

Mix 4oz brown sugar, 6 oz butter (or use half butter and half substitute) and about 3 large spoons of golden syrup ina sausepan until the butter melts and the sugar disolves.

Take off the heat and mix in 8oz of rolled oats. Once they're all mixed in put into a lined pan and bake at 375c for 15-20mins.

Sorry, Nigel -only just found the book. my recipe is very similar to the one you found in the end. Same principles-

100g (4oz) butter, 50g (2oz) brown sugar, 2*15ml spoons syrup.

125g (5oz) oats plus 25g (1oz) plain flour

8 inch square tin, bake at 350 15-20 mins
