typed in meganslaw.ca.gov, added my zip code and it turns out we have 10 sex offenders in the zip code. Most frightnening, one of the child molesters lives at the end of our street on a cross street, four doors from a child care facility and less than two mins in the opposite direction from a middle school.
There i was thinking sex offenders weren't allowed to live near schools or child care facilitys.

Maybe you should call the local PD and see if they are aware of this fact.
Sometimes they get the addresses wrong on those lists too.
When we lived in NH I checked the website and one of the addresses was my neighbours house. As she was and still is a friend I went right over to inform her. She called to get it sorted and was basically told that there was nothing they could do about it and it was probably just a typo.
Totally ridiculous answer, don't remember if she finally did get it put right.
Did you see that Jessica, the little girl kidnapped from her bed in Florida has been found dead? The man who did it was a registered sex offender - and although she was clearly not safe from him, at least the fact that he WAS a registered sex offender led to a fairly speedy arrest. I hope this man never gets out. cry

I think we should be informed as home owners when we rent or buy as to their whereabouts, but then that would be devastating to the realtors roll

What gets me are the ones with address witheld. Why?
The list here tells you where they work too, when they have a job of course.
It puts me off going to those places, not sure how to deal with those self employed.
I find these lists troubling. According to our local directory there is a man in his thirties living at our address who is a convicted sex offender. Normally when the government gets something about my address wrong I shrug and get around to it eventually. This on the other hand is quite worrying. As the only man in his thirties living at that address, I’m nervous. I keep thinking about my first summer in England when a little girl went missing and a local man got mistakenly identified as a convicted sex offender and was killed by a mob. At least two of my neighbors have talked to my neighbor across the street. His little girl is my goddaughter. Nobody other than him has mentioned it to me. I’m currently trying to find out how to get this information updated. It’s at least two years old.

That's what occurred to me too, Manc. While it is horrific to think that a registered sex offender who preys on children could be living nearby, I wouldn't even look at this list because it would be easy to become paranoid over those that have to register because they were 'caught' having sex as a teenager. A distinction needs to be made between the two and I have no idea if anyone does.

scroll to bottom of page and go to link to enter sex offender site, read and acknowledge the disclaimer on the next page, you then come to a page with a map giving you alternatives. i use zip code, mine is 95119, I click view map, it gives more info this way, up comes a map with little blue dots, click a dot and up comes a box with a piccy of the perp. Across the top of the box are various titles,
Description, Offenses, Scars/marks/tattoos, Known aliases, tells you everything you want to know.
You can also contact the sheriff if you know any info to be untrue and they will alter it.
There's no confusion here, mainly pedophiles but two very vicious rapists within a few miles.

I did a check for my area and there are 20 that live within the block! That didn't take into account any in violation. That rattled my cage! They are all inhabitants of a Veterans Homeless Center.
Thank god there are no schools nearby ..... I will be extra vigilant around here since there are several convicted rapists housed there. Very scary.
'sall common sense really I guess. Although i did have the opportunity to run down one of the men whose picture I saw. Child molester, umpteen counts. Crossing the Blvd with a woman and ignoring the traffic. Thank gods he didn't step in front of me, I recognized him and went bleh!
