Do you think all these kids with cell phones is a healthy thing? Yeah I realize they are good for safety purposes, but gawd it's annoying to me. Before I left Britain every kid you'd see would be text messaging someone else. Oddly, they'd be stood in a group of other kids, all of whom were text messaging someone else. Talk to each other!! Here it seems to be the same lately - everyone I see is on the phone.

Anyhoo, I only ask as I saw an ad for a phone specifically designed for kiddies.

Cell phones wether we like it or not are here with us to stay and i can see the day when they are sergically attached to our bodies ) wink D

I do see a good trend catching on because if the popularity of the cell phone , many ppl i know have had there land phone extracted from there home saving the excessive monthly fee and exorbitant taxas that go with it .

I would do the same but for the fact i have to have a land phone for the sattalite co to fed me programming . mine ( land phone )sits there accasionally ringing and i have reduced the monthly charges to a minimun even refusing to pay the * touch tone fee * as i have plenty of minutes on my cell i can use when calling out .

As we dont have our # in a phone book * we requested the carrier not to give our cell phone # out to a propective cellphone book publisher and we are on the *no call list * very few folks have phone access to us unless we offer our cell # to them .
Makes for a nice peacefull (time at home situation )
I'm not a big phone person but I love having a mobile for peace of mind.

DS will get his own when he goes to senior school this year, even though he doesn't want one. I can't imagine him being big on spurious texting - he'll be too busy.
I would get rid of the land line if there was a reasonable priced may my parents could get hold of me from England. Do the phone cards they get over there include calls to cell phones?
Funny cos I was going to post something regarding cell phones and then I saw that you beat me to it. Not quite sure why it's in this section mind.

Anyhow, what racks me off the most is people walking around a store with their cell phone held out in their hand while it's on speakerphone. Like, how f***ing rude and annoying is it to have to hear someone elses phone conversation blaring away...... evil

Plus earlier today I was driving behind some idiot with a phone in one hand and a cig in the other. May not sound so bad but every time she flicked her ash out the window she had no hands on the steering wheel..... -?

The designer does not have kids.

1) it looks like it's for little kids -that's not what little kids like.
2) the "mum/dad" emergency call buttons are not well thought out -even if it is ok to assume each child has two parents, one male and one female, these are often not the top two people to call in an emergency. The stay-at-home/more-accesible parent is the first choice, usually followed by a grandparent, neighbour or friend of the family -someone who is almost always guaranteed to be available to help. Ask any school secretary. Or kid in trouble. Who wants to call a busy parent at work to admit they've lbeen arrested when grandma will be over in a flash and probably bring cookies too?
3) it needs to be on a keychain/piece of elastic/something surgically attached to the child.
4) it need automatic answering on full volume for any calls coming from home :D
5)Wonder if they could install a radio controlled shock facility for behavioural training purposes?

You know, that's exactly what I was thinking too Dr M. It does seem to be a product aimed at parents to buy their kids, but the kids want the same phone that mom and dad use.
Hey, it's sized to fit in a kid's hand o . When did they start working on this phone - 20 years ago when mobiles were "bricks"?

It sounds like the USP is the list of pre-authorised phone numbers - but then again, this isn't that unique, as you can, with some networks, have parental control over who the child calls.

It didn't mention anything about games, did it? The games feature is the most valued part of mobiles for my kids.

It has fireworks.

It looks like its aimed at preschoolers.
I cant see any instance in these days where a child old enough to be off on their own somewhere would ever carry something so pathetic.

My daughter got her cell phone last summer at the age of 16 and she pays for it herself. She actually calls home on it more than anything else.

I did get my 14 year old one of those pay as you go but he rarely used it and then it quit working so its sat in a drawer since. He hasn't missed it at all.
