Well, I've decided that it'd be good to write a monthly article on the goings on with Britnet, so here it is!
Britnet Babblings. Issue 1 Feb 2005
Usage:
Over 1500 members posting 180,000+ messages! That's great but there are hundreds of thousands of British expats worldwide. If you come across one, please jot down the website on the back of your business card, slip of paper or some other item. It'd be great to build the community.
Board Update:
Since I havn't had time to keep up wtih Britnet over the last 6-8 months, the subs havn't been collected. This is my fault so I don't expect people to pay for the time that I've not sent invoices. This afternoon I'm going to be working on a modification that'll work with PayPal. When you subscribe and pay via PayPal (using either a credit card or PayPal account) then you'll get automatic access to the forum plus you'll be sent a renewal in a year.
This will help things run smoother. Checks will still be accepted, of course.
Email Addresses:
Please be sure to keep your email address up-to-date. You can do this by logging in and going to the profile. If you lose your password then you will not be able to recover your account information. We may also start up an opt-in mailing list with offers from sponsors, advertisers and other people who help pay to keep Britnet running.
Advertising:
I've had quite a few requests for advertising on Britnet. As many of your know, Britnet is a free service that is paid for by subscribers who sign up for the extra forums, the few affiliates we have, Britnet Mug sales and my own pocket if need be.
Advertising will be a good thing for Britnet. All ads will be relevant to British expats. These may be ads on the forum, in the directory and other places on Britnet. Don't panic! I wont over run the board with them and there will certainly be {u]no spyware[/u] and no popups.
Change in Status:
Britnet is classisfied as a non-profit in Texas, however we are not able to gain 301©(3) status. Plus the paperwork burdon is killing me. Since I am more used to handling corporations and the like, Britnet will probably move to a LLC sometime in the future. What does this mean for you? Not much really. Things will carry on as they are. For me, it just makes things easier to deal with....A LOT. It also gives me more flexibility later when it comes to expanding Britnet if the advertising takes off.
Mugs:
I have about a case and a half of mugs left. I've got a few orders to process over the last couple of days. I've had nothingbut compliments on the mugs and, if I get enough pre-orders, would be happy to order some more.
The mugs are $5.99 for non-subscribers and $4.75 each for subscribers. Minimum order of two and no maximum. Shipping is extra and will be given upon request. I would need to sell the current full case of 36 plus pre-order two more cases before buying more. To get the price I do, I have to order 144 mugs.
alt.visa.us.marriage-based:
This is a newsgroup that I created, with some great help, back on 20th Feb 1998. That makes it 7 years old and, I have heard, still going strong! Read up about the history of the newsgroup here
That's about it for this month. Feel free to drop me a message or an email if you have any questions about Britnet.
Regards
Nigel
