JOHN GIBSON, HOST The University of Colorado regents met behind closed doors last night to determine the fate of Professor Ward Churchill (search). As you may know, Churchill published some controversial comments about 9/11 victims, calling them little Eichmanns. The regents decided to launch a 30-day investigation into the professor, then decide whether he should keep his job.

Joining us now from Denver are two of his students at C.U., Chris Maes and Dustin Craun. Mr. Craun was arrested at a protest yesterday.

So let me start with Mr. Craun. Since you were arrested, you get to go first.

DUSTIN CRAUN, WARD CHURCHILL'S STUDENT OK.

GIBSON Why do you think Churchill should keep his job?

CRAUN Really, this is a First Amendment issue. And Professor Churchill should have the right to speak the things that he believes, especially as a university professor, as long as he can back those things up with facts.

Wont ask you all what you all think cus im assumng ( works well here ) cus im sure* Monster like always ,will know what you all think *.and who you would vote for in a popularity contest ( remenbering to put the appropiate smilies in place ) thread not open to zombies of either party D D D D D D D

He's your mum he is, he's your mum with her best hat on.
I am very confused by your post -?

Your title asks should churchill be fired?

Your link goes to a piece on the man who cut his nuts off after a rugby game

Then you say you won't ask what we all think cos monsters knows what we're all thinking -?
I don't think he should be fired because he has the guts to walk in downtown Boulder smoking a fag. Man, that's bravery.

old link got stuck in mouse sorry :D :D :D :D

remind me again what I think you all think... or something.....

John, it's not dyslexia you have, it's inattention to detail. There's a difference between "I think people think" and "I know you all think"

Trust me, I'm a Doctor.

...and I'd answer the OP if it made any sense........
Even after you have amended your post, John, it makes no sense at all of why Monster would know how we all think?

and why it is so funny - afterall, aren't you all for free speech. Or is that what you are trying to say -?
OK John, honest reply here. I don't think he should be fired. If he wrote something that the Republican Governor of Colorado approved of, I don't think he should be fired for that either. Freedom of speech and all that.

I thunk that up all by myself. Monster had nothing to do with it.
I have absolutely no idea what's going on (

As for Churchill. I saw him on TV last night. His views are obnoxious but he is in the country that is supposed to protect freedom of speech (although I think that is becoming a laughable concept in the U.S). On the other hand, should students with their fees and/or tax payers and/or bursary money etc. have a choice about whether they want their money going to support those views. He would be run out of a private company pretty fast if he used company time to promote such opinions.

Nevertheless, I'm sure he would argue that part of his job is to provoke thought and debate and that colleges and universities are the last bastion of that intellectual freedom. Given that it is the U.S he may well be an antidote for Fox News.
I saw him too. I couldn't listen to him I just kept thinking For gawds sake wash your hair there are animals living in it.
I posted elsewhere that I thought we need people in the US to be more offensive rather than less - in part Ward Churchill is what I had in mind. I heard him on NPR ealier in the week and I've read some of the essay.
Now I could pull some pretty big holes in his ideas, and it should be noted that he has changed some of it - the cleaners, cops and firefighters killed on 9/11 are no longer 'little eichmanns'.

However there is actually very little debate here as to *why* Bin Laden and others would attack America. Bush and his halfwits utter *they hate our freedoms* and this is largely taken to be the truth.

Two and half years on, I think we should be able to ask 'what did America do to encourage or provoke the attacks and did it in any way deserve what happened?'

Ward Churchill isn't right IMO - but someone needs to start the debate or this is going to be a very very long war on terror.

Finally - the whole point of freedom of speach is that you protect the unpopular - the popular has a habit of looking after itself. And where better to protect such speach and to stimulate the much needed debate than in a university?
IMO Ward Churchill is a complete turnip. And he has every right to be. If the University of Colorado want to pay him, fine. If he wants to pretend he's a Native American, fine, he can be as big a liar as he likes. Dunno what all the fuss is about. So he doesn't like the United States. Big deal.

A doctor you are of spin that is.

yes there is a differance between ( i think people think ) ?and ( i know what you think ) ?and what i acually said which was .

*monster as usual will know what you all think * perfectlly good english and a differant meaning.

You have a annoying trait of ASSUMIMNG something other then what is written even though (spelling and grammer mistakes aside ) what the opinion is is clearly stated in the original post or in a follow up .

If you are confused and not able to crasp the point of the post( FOR WHATEVER REASON ) please ask for clarification .

YOu were wrong in your interpretation of the ( limerick original post ) as you are with the interprtation of mine .

if a post is nor clear to me i ask for it to be defined .
I dont assume i know what others think and agree with . if i want there opinion i ask . :)

you maybe in your SELF GLORIFING attitude would be better served to take that approach and friction would then be minimised .ill let you have the last word so you dont fret over it. :)
