Having read this, I think so......
Do you think they will re-release all Cliff Richard's chart hits when he pops his clogs wink
Hmmm, it may be a sign of things to come. Afterall, covers have been extremely popular in the UK for sometime, so it was merely a matter of time before the originals we re-released.

I mean think about it, pop music has now been around for half-a-century. There is a whole generation who may not have heard some of the classic songs from the earlier years. Surely the sign of a good song is withstanding the test of time, so why not re-release the classics for the new generation to enjoy much as the older one's did.

Besides that, the British have always been a nostalgic nation. For some reason we have a fascination with the recent past, whether it's music, video games or TV shows.
It's more one-a-week thing I feel makes a mockery. Too clinical.
The truth is that the British singles chart, such a great guage at one time of popular music, started to lose relevancy and accuracy in the 1980s as albums began to vastly outsell singles.

Now, in this era of downloading etc. the singles chart has become even more irrelevant. Only a few thousand sales can now give an artist a Top 40 hit. Yet for some reason Britain still hypes the singles chart and gives it an entirely misplaced importance.
Part of the Elvis thing is that his "70th birthday" was just recently and for a lot of people it's like a religious event, thus the huge sales of songs and albums around this time of year.

It isn't just Brits that do covers of older songs, Pearl Jam did Last Kiss a few years ago and is still doing the rounds. I'm sure there are many more but I can't thik of them just now.
He's dead, get over it, springs to mind.....

About the only Elvis song I liked was when Junky XL remixed that Elvis B side that was in the Nike commercial during the last World Cup.
At least the UK has a singles chart - I know that the US does but it is based on airplay bcos you cannot buy the singles........some people I only want to buy the one single as I know I won't like the rest of the album - rather frustrating..........................

I agree that Americans do lots of covers too......just look at Britneys (not very good imo) My Prerogative...........
