Is it just me or is American bacon totally crap?
I don't think I've had a single rasher that's been less than 90% fat. I open the packets and it's mostly white with very little pink. I have even bought expensive bacon trying to get something decent....no luck.
What's wrong with the pigs? What do they feed them, Lard?
Not just you, I think most of us think that. I miss a good rasher.
Not crap, just different. Certainly not good for a bacon roll. If you can't find back bacon, you could try some of the country hams that are available. They may not look like bacon, but they don't taste that bad when they are fried-up and doused in HP sauce.
We often buy Oscar Meyer bacon (albeit from Spain) -not a substitute for "proper" bacon though, just adding variety to all the foods we eat.
You could also try Taylor Ham. That has a similar taste to the bacon you get back home and comes in round slices. You can buy it pre-packed near the bacon or your deli will slice it for you.)
Nah, it's all crap.
I suppose that depends on how desparate you are
Even I got used to the American stuff, and I hated smoked or streaky bacon. Needs must...
One of my luxuries - I buy British-style bacon in bulk online and keep a supply in the freezer for the times I feel in need of a bacon buttie 'fix'. )
I haven't found any American bacon that I really like; it's just way too fatty for my tastes.
Nah, it's all crap.
Sorry you're wrong.
You just don't get the good stuff.
Oh another thing I must add to the "Sell your State Thread"
Andrew :)
I'll tell you what is good though, and that is what my in-laws refer to as "fresh side." It's kind of like bacon but not; slices of pork slightly thicker than bacon and thinner and very fatty although there's more to it than that because it tastes fantastic.

Do tell Ellie
I tried country ham and found it extemely salty, even after soaking in water it was still inedible.
Same thing with British style bacon that I got from the Brit store once when I didn't read the label. It wasn't till I had tried it and went back to look at the label that I saw it was made in the US. Not awful but not great either.
In a squeeze I will use the streaky American stuff, though I never really cared for streaky.

I've come across some really salty stuff too - almost inedibly so. You have to experiment until you come across something you like (then remember its name for the next time you are shopping in that store).
They sell Irish Morn bacon in the Stop and Shop by me. It is delicious and exactly the same as what you get back home. I buy it and freeze so I always have some.
Well, I now make my own, in fact, I'm just off to take care of Bessy....
