That Caddy that is driving GWB down the street is one of the most heavily armoured cars on record.
What happened to the good old Presidential Convertible?

Remember JFK?

If you were Chimpy McFlightsuit, in a city closed down by your Secret Service and surrounded by loyal supporters, helicopters above you, snipers on every rooftop, wouldn't you at least feel slightly more secure than that?

If the Queen can ride around side-saddle I'm damn sure that Monkeyboy can show his face. Doesn't he have a mandate and we all love him for it?

But the Republicans rule by fear - if its safe enough for King George to walk the streets then perhaps its safe enough for people to go about their lives without fear, of terrorists, gay marriage, spongebob square pants.....

These are dangerous times, or at least they'd like you to believe they are.

I also was here when Jimmy Carter was President and he walked practically the whole way, not just the last few yards.

I suppose the US has more to fear now.

....we can live in hope..........

*ducks rapidly -where's the heavily armoured caddy when I need it?*

**no I don't really wish him dead (before certain people waste days trying to type "hypocrite") **

***dang I hope that caddy hurries up :o***

This talk about US presidents got me to thinking about leaders and if we remember much about them.

In my own case I've lived through 12 presidents from Roosevelt to GWB and can name and remember them, but I don't have the same recollection of UK PM's.

Maybe it's because of their limited time in office or perhaps their importance on the world stage. Only Winston Churchill had that effect.
Yes, Margaret Thatched certainly had a short term and very little influence in international affairs.

Apart from the fact she was a woman, she didn't seem to get too many headlines in Canada.

I left the UK in 1963 so I am speaking as someone that was on the outside.

One sad PM that really got attention was Anthony Eden and the Suez canal farce.

I find it interesting that she didn't get much coverage in Canada. I thought her international popularity was rather legendary. Perhaps I was just raised on Tory propaganda.

I'm not a Maggie fan before anybody asks.
'Chimpy Mcflightsuit', I'm just loving that D

She's clearly revered by many American conservatives (often in the same breath as old Ronnie), at least by the ones that care in the slightest about foreign affairs (a decreasing number, it would appear, except for the "which country shall we invade next" line of thinking).

I suspect this is why Keith - the USA is the big power to the south and a superpower - try as we might, its hard to ignore them.

I couldn't name too many Canadian PMs but I could name all the British ones in my lifetime. Now I'm here that may well change in the future.

Do you get a pension from the UK, if so you should at least remember Captain Attlee.

You mean you weren't gripped as a child by the incessant bickering of Pearson and Diefenbaker or the sexy charm of Monsieur Trudeau?
