but assuming you're not watching it, how long does your kettle take to boil?

We just bought a new one (the 4th in 4 years roll) but this one was pretty much half the price of the others ($20 compared to $35) with apparently the same spec. so we were suspicious of it's performance and timed it. It boiled 1.7l of water in 8.5 minutes (yes ages compared to UK kettles, but I digress). We just boiled the old one to compare but got distracted, so although we know it took less time to boil1.5l, we're not sure how much less.
No idea. I have a coffee machine. P
I will have to get back to you on that one

Incidentally, just how starved of entertainment do you have to be to time a kettle boiling? I mean really

/Must be a slow night in the Midwest. Don't you have snow to shovel or whatever it is you people in the boonies do?

....the real experiment was of course measuring how long it took someone to say that. At over 2 hours, I'd say you failed the test. whatever it was :D

Dont know what they do but whatever it is its slow ... :D :D :D :D

Dont know how long it takes but when im waiting to make a pot of tea it seems like forever .

Think it boils quicker when over gas .
I boiled my expensive electric kettle and put the same quanity of water in the stove top kettle.... and they both boiled at exactly the same moment. Put the electric kettle away then - I needed the counter space!

But an electric kettle does have a major advantage over an antique one: it switches itself off and can't boil dry.

I boil just what covers the element as I only make a cup at a time and it does that in the time it takes to put cereal and milk in the bowl, pour and drink a small glass of orange juice. That can't be more than a minute or two.
As I was boiling the kettle this morning anyway, and actually remembered this thread, I timed it.
My 2l stainless steel cordless electric kettle took 7½ mins to boil and turn off. It was filled with cold water and filled to the max line.

All very scientificly done of course.
lol lol lol lol lol lol lol
How have you gone through a new kettle every year? I have been searching old threads to see how long I've had my kettle and it's about three years.

See here http//www.british-expats.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=1093&highlight=whistly for chat about kettles. But the really amusing thing about this thread is Bolton Boy having a hissy fit about brits whining about the banking system. D Some things never change.

Oh, and in answer to your question I think it takes about four minutes to boil two cups (a pint) in my kettle.
lol Some things don't change - and neither do my responses to resurrected subjects it seems!

OMG that's so funny!

He must be a (merchant) banker to get so worked up about it........

-----4 kettles

We boil the kettle a lot. We drink huge cups of tea. We boil water for cooking in the kettle. We always take the kettle when we travel. We've had two Phillips and a Black and Decker. This cheapo one is a Melita or something like that. Same as the coffee makers.
