Okay before I tell you about my recent purchase, I would like to say a few words in my defence, December is a long, long month when you work in a shop and I hadn't had a chance to get to a supermarket for a few weeks. So when I did I was easy prey, I was dazzled by the bright lights and the pretty boxes.

So this is what I bought and I bet I'm the ONLY person who has. I got a pack of "Grapples" according to the packaging this is pronounced Grape-L. The label said "looks like an apple, tastes like a grape", how interesting I thought, must be one of these new hybrid fruits, I have to have these.

Well what I had bought (for $4.99 for 4 of them) was apples with artificial grape flavor roll . They are nice enough but they are not "apples that taste like grapes", they are merely very expensive apples that smell like artificial grape scent .

They saw me coming!

lol You daft bat!

Why would one want an apple to taste like a grape anyway? -?

)
lol For those of us with no excitement in our lives, apples that taste like grapes are a big deal, well they would be if they did, but they don't - taste like grapes that is.
Fret no longer Deborah. I bought some a year or so ago in a premenstrual emotional shoot out. Grapples won I'm afraid. It teaches a very valuable lesson; Buy Grapples no more. wink

There are probably more grapple buyers amongst our Britnet brethren who may choose to remain nameless, but at least we are owing up to our stupidity.
lol Thank you dianey, it helps to know I'm not alone, it was a momentary lapse, a split second of Grapply maddness, but I know I will be strong from now on.

p.s wish I'd thought of it - wonder what other fruits there are out there just waiting to be invented by the Marketing Dept., and then unleashed on us poor vulnerable expats

I read an article in the New Yorker - about a Kiwi/Peach thing that everybody is getting excited about in the cross-breeding fruit world.

The nectarine is the most successful invented fruit - looks like it will not be dispalced by the Grape/Apple combo

I think I'd sooner have a bag of grapes that taste like apple....as long as they're seedless of course.
I... um.... bought these also. BUT.. mine DID taste kinda grapey! They really did!! .... I think.. D
Fizzy fruit is on the way - a scientist here at Oregon State invented it last year and it's been pretty popular in testing. Some big company is negotiating the rights to it now, no doubt.
