Okay, when I recieved my 2 yr green card (via the department of INS) it was in my married name. I received my 10 yr card in the mail last week which was in my maiden name (via homeland security). Now the only reason I can see for this, is that, my maiden name is Muslim couldl I be wrong? Has anyone else had the department of homeland security use there madien name for their green card, even though their married?

Can you remember what you put on your application form? It asks for you name, and any other names you've been known as.
I've had 3 green cards, and they've all been in my married name.

Yep, my married name. Maybe I should call them to ask why my first green card was in my married name and this one in my maiden. Funny thing though, they sent a cheque to me in my married name. So they do know it! It seems that maybe anyone with a muslim name, married or not, has to have that name on their green card.
Zed, the most probable explanation is that it is a clerical error - as you say they have both names on file and someone put the wrong one on the card. I can't dismiss the possibility of malice - there is a lot of islamaphobia here - but I suspect it is down to an individual rather than the organization.
I would suggest contacting you local USCIS office (what was INS) and tell them the card has the wrong name on it and you want it amending. From what little I know, the card holder has an obligation to inform them of errors and changes anyway. Be careful of accusing them directly of discriminating against you because you are a muslim - it may just provoke them further.

all the best,
The date of birth was wrong on my green card. I contacted them but they updated their computers and never bothered ever issuing me with a new card up until I got citizenship. I reckon getting a new card will be like pulling teeth... ( It irks me because if it were you making a mistake in the process, they'd probably either deport you or send you to Guantanamo... roll

at least you got a card - they seem to have misplaced my photos and I'll have to go an submit new ones - just hope they don't think I'm paying the fee again!
Thank you,
I do have a phone number to call them so I shall. I was just wondering if this is now the norm.

PS I am not muslim (just have been blessed with a beautiful muslim name, or in this day and age, I could say cursed). wink
