I was asked to write an article for the Democratic party newsletter in our county.

Here it is.

Mark Thatcher, son of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher has been placed under house arrest in South Africa.
His mother has paid $320,000 to bail him out after he was implicated and arrested for helping to finance and orchestrate a military coup in Equatorial Guinea, for which he now faces up to 15 years in prison.

Mark, a millionaire, gained most of his riches in an military arms deal he brokered between British Aerospace and the Saudi Air Force. Such was the scale of this corruption in this deal, that if it had come to light when it occurred in Britain, when his mother was still in power I would hazard a guess that she would have been probably been forced to resign and step down as Prime Minister by the Conservative Party.
I mean, come on, the Prime Ministers son, an arms deal, Saudi Air Force. With him walking away a millionaire? It just stinks of kickbacks and nepotism.

Equatorial Guinea, a small impoverished country in west-central Africa, has recently found huge oil reserves off the coast and although it is expected to be a windfall for the government run by a dictator, Obiang Nguema, whether any of the general populace will see any relief in their lives from the oil reserves remains to be seen.
So, Mark Thatcher helped finance (allegedly) a military coup in this small nation to seize control of the oil reserved first discovered in the mid 1990's. Seven mercenaries were arrested in Zimbabwean capital, Harare, in a joint sting operation between Equatorial Guinea, South Africa and Zimbabwe as these seven foreign soldiers were trying to board a plane loaded with arms and munitions to Equatorial Guinea.
The leader of these mercenaries was Sandhurt educated, Former British SAS operative Simon Mann. He was tried and jailed for 7 years after the airport arrest and this is where Thatcher was implicated.
The South African Authorities seized Thatcher and all evidence which shows that the coup was and given a donation of £134,000 ($200,000 approx) by a certain Mr. J.H. Archer.
This is too much of a coincidence for it to be anyone other than former Conservative Party chairman and London Mayor nominee Jeffrey Archer. Archer was Thatcher's' right hand man and cabinet minister when she was Prime Minister. Fortunately for yours truly writing this article, he's also a convicted felon after he was imprisoned for perjury and perverting the course of justice. The Daily Star, a tabloid British rag accused Archer of sleeping with a prostitute. Archer won a libel lawsuit and was awarded the best part of $500,000, until it came to light that he lied on the stand and did sleep with a hooker. At that he had to step down as nominee for the mayor pf London, to pay the money back and went to jail.
So with Thatcher and Archer we're hardly dealing here with the most scrupulous of characters. But all this is a long way away from Manistee County, I've rambled on about a third world country and the past discretions of the corruptions of the British Tory party and African mercenaries. What am I getting at?
Well in it's most simplistic form is quite simply this.

In South Africa, You can be jailed for up to 15 years for being part of a military exercise to overthrow the legitimate government of a country in order to control it's oil.
In the USA, you'll be handed a second term as President.
