No Brit connection, here, but just wanted to put in a good word for the new film "Sideways" -- best film I've seen all year. Definitely worth catching.
Well, while we're at it - I watched "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" on Friday - and wow! Excellent movie.

Yes, agreed, we watched it and found it quite disturbing in parts and so different to what we expected. i have a Jim Carey, oh no radar, but he was really ace in this movie. :D
Never heard of "Sideways", what's it all about?
I rented this film this weekend, and I know I am a philistine, whose American cultural sensibilities are somewhat truncated, but what a pile of overly contrived sentimental drivel. It was possibly popular here because there are so many sad boring no marks who obviously related to something in the film. But if you’re British and have a life, put the three dollars towards a new unscratched copy of Screamadelica.
The film had only 2.5 seconds worth watching anyway.
Would that be the part where the guy ran naked into the street chasing the moron that was doing his wife lol That oriental chick in that movie, she is now the one in the hospital drama GRAY'S ANATOMY.
I downloaded the movie, and won't have bothered if I had to pay for it, some movies are just not worth the bandwidth sometimes. Like someone else said there, if you haven't seen it, don't bother renting it, get SPANGLISH instead.
rented if from netflix rated it as another non anything film ..
but there again differant folks differant strokes , i would,nt bother to see it again but you might . )
Sideways - heap of crap. Spangilish, likewise. Just MHO, of course. 8)
Deep End is a movie we caught the other week, with Tilda Swinton in it. Elfin face, red hair, very fair complexion, kind of spooky face. It was brilliant. Kind of crept in under the sceptic radar. I found myself saying, Why the f*** is she doing that and then thinking, maybe a mother might! It's intense and the homosexual scenes with the young guy and his 30 year old lover are handled well, but the whole film is quite disturbing.
Three days later I was still seeing little snapshots of it. It hangs well in the brain D
As to Sideways, i was really hopeful, mainly cos of the male lead who was getting married. I've always had a soft spot for the dumb parts he's played and thought he needed a break, but like Meet the Fockers, I was sitting there thinking, Oh for gawds sake, unleash the dogs, let the movie run, this self censorship is so painful to watch. Ooh, let's show a willy, but leave the characters as cardboard as possible. I am still trying to undrstand what was so goddamn good about it. Although i had been to Sonoma and other parts shown in the movie which is what a lot of Brit stuff is these days, Oh look, hasn't that place changed, or oh, look it's just the same. Nothing to do with the movie.

I thought it was pretty good. Just wished I had some wine to drink with it...
 :D

It's about a couple of guys visiting wineries in california, getting plastered and then driving back to thier motel drunk. Pile of ka-ka if you ask me. Save your money.
Sorry I recommended it now folks. I realize now of course that it is indeed woefully lacking in explosions and stunts and has far, far, far too much of that whole distracting dialogue thing. roll
Hey, I'm not the only one that liked it you know. Check out this Guardian review . . . have to admit this is a bit over the top. It was good, but not THAT good.

You left out the part about shagging desparate birds

Only ICE-WINE for me, and where better to get it, than Niagara on the Lake Ontario
