Beckham to Kick Off Movie Career with 'Goal!'

LONDON (Reuters) - England soccer captain David Beckham is set to kick off his film career with a movie trilogy called "Goal!," about a player from Los Angeles who signs for British club Newcastle United.

The Real Madrid midfielder, one of the world's biggest sports stars, will be joined by team-mates Zinedine Zidane and Raul in the $100 million venture directed by Danny Cannon, according to Variety magazine's Web site.

The films would mark Beckham's first major part in a feature film. He plays himself and will be seen in all three segments of the trilogy.

"It's no secret that I want to be involved in youth coaching when I finally hang up my boots, and I believe that the 'Goal' trilogy will provide a positive message to kids around the world," Beckham told Variety.

Do you think it will take him a while to get into character.
He may want to consider method acting

Whatever this film is like it will never match the silliness of 'Escape to Victory' starring Stallone (Goalie) and Michael Caine (Center Midfield).

Being a bit of history scholar I was never sure how all the characters ended up in a POW camp. For example how did an Argentinian (Ardilles) and a Brazillian (Pele) get themselves banged-up in a German POW camp circa 1942. They were neutral countries at the start of war - and most POWs would have been captured at Dunkirk. Perhaps Pele was in the Brazillain airforce..

Needless to say a world class team was assembled and beat the Germans against all the odds (rough-play/dodgy-ref and machine-guns behind the goals). There was no Russioan linesman that day

At the end of the game every body escaped and Britain went on to win the war. This film proves that professional footballers can't act and that actors can't play football..not act.
I forget the artistic licsense but I seem to recall Pele was playing someone from the African colonies - either French or British - so therefore could have fought/been captured in North Africa or France.

Scrub that - you're right! They do play an Argentinian and a Brazilian. D
Hopefully Des Lynham will be in this one too.
