-? Is this man made problem, a cycle in the earths history or abit of both?

Personally I think its abit of both, we certainly are not helping the Situation, but I do not see we have all the right answers in regards to correcting the problem. If we do something that is wrong it could encourage a runner way effect. Ahhhh what are we like lol.

Well going by the opinions of 99% of scientists, this is a very real phenomenom. Granted, some of it may be natural, but by the increases in greenhouse gases in the last 50 or so years and the corresponding rise in use of Carbon based fuels in those years point to an alarming trend. What I don't think anyone really knows are the effects and when they will be encountered. I really hope Tony Blair will have some influence on Bush regarding this seeing that the Kyoto treaty will now go into effect with Russia's endorsement.

What I don't like is the attitude, "Well, its not really proven/the scientists are crazy" attitude - what are we going to wait until all the icecaps have melted and we're all 3 feet under the ocean until we confront it?

You been watching 'The Day After Tomorrow'? :D

Obviously there were cold and warm periods in history that had little to do with man's activities. So, yes, global warming is a factor of the cyclical period we are in.

However, the amount of warming, which is to be expected at this time, is a lot higher than history would suggest. It correlates to industrial activity and exacerbated by the corresponding increase in population.

I believe that the earth is more than capable of compensating for global warming, although there might be local difficulties - the biggest being if there is a reversal of the Gulf Stream.
While I don't disagree with the point that Bush has to make a point of getting America to cut down on its polutants and waste, I feel that Europe needs to stop burying its head to the fact that nuclear power is not the answer to lowering harmful gases into the atmosphere. All it is doing is delaying a problem of getting rid of nuclear waste for the generations to come. By blaming America all the time, all they are doing is taking the focus away from what they are up to.

Read a brilliant book the other day on how two sisters survive after the electricity goes out D

nah, 'fraid not. it was set in California

8) I was reading something on the subject sometime back. A boffin was looking at mammoth remains etc. He concluded that this animals froze and died within minutes. These animals were eating and doing what Elephants do and suddenly froze.
Now thats scary that the weather can suddenly change like that. I hope GB does not put his head in the sand and say nothing is happening. One of my pet P**s off's here is the waste, you know V8's engines etc etc.
The world leaders (ours in particular) don't seem to think it's a problem yet and if it does become a problem then we can just buy/build/terrorform a new planet to live on.

Wankers evil

.

That was 'The Day After Tomorrow' surely that didn't really happen? :o

8) Yep it did really happen. Watched something on the Discovery Channel about it to. They where digging this mamouth up, it froze so quick that there was not a single sign of decomposure. Geeze and these things were build to with stand the cold.

Scientists say the sun is getting hotter each year. We can probabaly slow the earth's rate of warming down by being more environmentally responsible but we can't stop the sun from getting hotter. We are doomed cry

Surely there was some kind of global catastrophe like a meteor or something. Global Warming wouldn't just happen like that for no reason, surely?

Thats whats scary about it. The boffins do not know.
