8) All this confusion about how stuff is counted here makes me laugh.
Do you think that there should be just a Vote for the presidential race, rather than have all these extra votes placed on the ballot?
What with all these postal stuff etc, which they seem not to count etc, why have them??
Surely, get some decent freaking voting equipment....yeah, we had all kinds of crap like 'Clerk of Court', 'Sheriff', 'Judges', school levies, blah de blah...surely for presidential election, it should just be that (and maybe senate and house), not all this other crap as well.
There is (was ) a vote for either bush/chaney kerry/edwards for president /vc as a seperate vote on the ballot it appears as the first item .
BUSH got 51 %KERRY got 49% A figure in favour of bush by 3 mill.

While that seems to make sence Adeshell its a hard enought job to get poeple out to vote *some lined up for hours * it would seemily be a impossible task to get the vote out on more then one accasion , plus these politial posts usually go together with A new administation to elect them on a seperate day /time would in my mind course a lot of confusion
Looks like you are faced with another 4 years of Georgie Boy. Lets hope he manages to dig the US out of Iraq and keep the US out of any further financial dissasters.
As for us Canadians. Either Bush or Kerry would have little effect on what matters, trade. The US needs Canadian products and services and would be in DS without us.

I was quite amazed at the amount of time that voters had to wait. How did older Americans manage?
Is it because of the lack of sufficient polling stations?
Where I live we have an in house polling station, set up in the lobby of the adjacent high rise. It serves approx. 200 potential voters. I've never had to line up for more than a few minutes.
Glad we don't have an electoral college.

To be fair Keith WHO EVER was elected it would.nt make much differance to 99.9% of citizens in america either . as you can see by years past all the retoric goeas away when the new administation is formed and the politicians go about there bisiness of feathering thier own nests and doing *favours *for friends .
the %of poor stays about the same the% of rich remains ,and the economy goes up and down in a cycle as it always has .
But then im a cynical old fart
I think you're right there John and I don't think that Kerry was particularly the ticket either.
Two things that have really got my goat about Bush though; 1. Iraq. 2. Stealing of overtime pay from just-over-the-poverty line americans.

Every citizen who is *absent from thier registeed home is still entitled to vote thats why we have the *postal vote * they are not counted sometimes as a administative decision do do with time and funds .
In a situation where the winner has MORE of a lead then the total number of postal votes it woulkd seem pointless to count a batch of votes where if the challenger got 100%* unlikely* if would not make a differance to the result.
It could however make a differance in the popular vote in a tight race as it was in 2000 but since the *popular * vote is not how the president is chosen it would also seem a waste of time and not change the final result

How would that change the situation in Ohio?

I agree with you and if you look at past Presidential Elections none have ever had a real convincing win. http://www.multied.com/elections/
My personal dislike of the GWB administration ( lets face it, they really pull the strings), is that it has to big a connection to oil and has a distinct religious overtone.
I believe the security fears made the day and yet if Kerry had got in, without a freindly Gongress not too much would have changed.
The rest of the world can only hope that in the next four years America will rely more on diplomacy rather than the military.

Ameriscot it wouldnt the democrats are just delaying the inevitable . would be nice if as in all elections up untill 2000 the loser congratulated the winner and worked to unite the country ,.
Nixon who apart from his faults was a prime example of that ,the very narrow victory kennedy got was arguably up for review / challange cus of some alleged wrongdoing in west virginia ,but to his credit he didnt seek legal action and just said * for the unity of the nation lets move on *
But then im a cynical old fart
Well John that would make 2 off us then lol. They are all the same lol
and kieth I also agree with you. Look at all the Canada bashing that went on after the US went into Iraq. I did not see Mexico getting the same back lash, but come flu time, they all ask canada for help lol.
How would it help Ohio, well you turn up on the day, make your mark. You do not have polling stations open, way late, cuz there are still people still waiting to spend their 5 minutes in the voting box doing there thing.
Yep I heard on average it takes 5 minutes to complete a vote. They worked it out at one station that they would have to stay open to 10pm just to let the folks in line at that particular time to vote.
Make your mark and go

But the thing is that the lines were there because it took people 10 minutes to vote because they were voting on all the other crap too.

But if Kerry decides to draw out the election, it's not going to have anything to do with that issue, is it? It's got to do with unregistered voters and there's a legal procedure they can follow to incorporate these votes.
They've always taken 10 minutes to vote in Ohio, and it hasn't been a problem before.
