Saw this on Saturday night, so I didn't have to deal with the snivelling smelly little neighbours...and their kids banging on the door.
Fantistic film, amazing performance by Jamie Foxx, most deserving of the Oscar, which is exactly why he won't get it..
I really recommend this film. It is a bit long at 2 1/2 hrs but the music and the story are inspiring
Mr Zed wants to see this movie. Did the 2 1/2 hours seem that long?

First time I looked at my watch it had been on for about 1 3/4 hours, and that was only because my bum was sore.....If you are interested in the history behind the man, definitely worth it.
I can't wait to see this - was supposed to go this weekend but my Brit friend's rellies wanted to see "SAW", instead - a load of bollocks, btw! evil We were even laughing at the so-called scary bits. lol

I saw this last night. Wow! It was incredibly interesting on many levels. First and most notable is Jamie Foxx's performance. It is breathtaking. I think he proved his mettle playing Angelo Dundee in Ali, but this takes it to a completely new level. The way he got inside the character was amazing. You can tell that he spent a lot of time with Ray, perfecting his style of speech and the nuances of his movement. It is a fascinating story, much of which I had already read about, but it seemed fresh and very introspective. I know that Charles had a huge hand in the making of this movie, and it is evident in the slight bias of the story. Ray was an incredibly complex individual and it's as hard to like him after seeing this movie as it is to dislike him. I was a little disappointed that more time wasn't spent showing the viewer how he developed his love for music and his apppreciation of it. It is certainly implied early on, and byt he time he got to Seattle and met Quincy Jones, it was obvious that he'd already made somewhat of a name for himself on the circuit, but the movie doesn't explicitly tell you how that happened.
His wife was obviously a saint for putting up with his drug abuse and philandering, but then as my wife pointed out, it wasn't like she was living through his nightmare with him. The guy toured relentlessly for so much of his life. His love of music and the love he had for his mother were obvioulsy the driving factors in his life and this movie portrayed that side of him perfectly.
Of course the music is beautiful and for me, it was an incredibly emotional movie and yes, I'm man enough to say it, it was a multi-kleenex night.
Go see it. You won't be disappointed.

Have to agree with that, L. There was only the one scene that referred directly to how he came into contact with the piano and learnt to play music.
Jamie was amazing and has certainly moved a few steps up from his performance in Ali.
I wasn't disappointed one bit. It's a wonderful film.
