An excellent way to start the weekend, my husband and I just got our notices approving our change of status to become premanent residents )
Now, of course we only got the courtesy copy and the original went to our old attonerys! Do we need to wait to get the original before we can go to the Newark Federal building with our passports, more pictures to complete the processing for our alien reg card or can we just take our copies????
Can any one tell me what to expect and what happens next???
Thank you!!!!!!!!
First thing I would do is get the originals anyway if you are no longer using that attorney.
At least give them a call and tell them you will come pick it up when they recieve it.
In my experience it's better not to trust things being mailed if you can go get it yourself. It's quicker and less chance of it being overlooked or lost in the mail.
I doubt you will be able to use a copy. The gov always seems to want originals even if they then make a copy of it for their use.
I'm only guessing here of course.
You could always call and ask.
Great news!
Can I ask how long ago were you fingerprinted? We had our fingerprints done last Wednesday so it would be nice to have a bit of a rough estimate!
Thanks,
Debs x )
Will definitely get the originals back from old attonery, only snag is that they are on the West Coast and we are on the East.... I don't mind jumping on a plane to LA but I fear my other half will suggest Fed Ex instead ) I think I'll call on Monday (put aside several hours waiting to get through) to see if we can just use our copy.
We got fingered printed back in March of this year in Newark and we went through Vermont processing centre. We'd only just renewed our EAD and advance parole travel docs - typical really!
You don't need the originals. We just got ours and the "courtesy" copy was fine to get the stamp in the passport. Debs, sorry, but when you get your fingerprints done bears no relation to how long it wil take. Ours got done so long ago, they (apparently) "expired", and we had to have them done again. So it was 2.5 years from the first time we had them done. Hopefully yours won't be so long.
Thank you , Monster. I guess that means a nice early morning trip to Newark this week then!
when this happened to me, I hade to go to the district office where I handed in my temp. green card, filled in a form and provided new photos. They say the 10 year one will come in 6 months, mine came in 6 weeks. If you have an extra photo they will be able to issue you with a travel warrant which is good for a year if your green card does not come on time.
thank you for that tip as I am traveling back to the uk in January - will make sure I have a good stock of photos with me. The INS notice said that the photos should be 3/4 face but I thought that they had now changed to the frontal passport style....
