Anyone out there heard/have Studio 150 yet?
Just picked it up and am curious as to what others think of it...
The arrangement on The Bottle reminds me of Style Council.. for better or worse...
Paul Weller....haven't heard him for a long while.
Haven't got it yet, but will.
The single is pretty oldschool and a lot less melodic and jazzy sophisticated than some of his solo stuff, but I like it. Here it is! http//mcms-delivery.virtuebroadcasting.com/deliverMedia.asp?id=0EB7C7FB-51C6-421E-86C7-9A78A93DA168
Cel -- he's actually been consistently doing good stuff for years now, a bit under the radar here, but less so in the UK (this new one was at number 2 in the album charts a couple weeks back). He is a really talented guy.
Saw him at the Wiltern in LA a year or two ago. He was fantastic. Huge amount of energy and even threw in some of the old Jam and Style Council tunes.
Very cool.
Two of my top five gigs ever include the '94 tour for Wildwood and the Days of Speed tour in '01 both in Boston at great venues - Avalon and the Berklee.
Guess I'd have to come up with what the other 3 are now... okay - one of them has to be Paul Weller in Croydon (!!) in '99. But this was perhaps overshadowed by the fact that we could not, for the life of us, find a pub ANYWHERE afterwards. Bummer.
That only leaves 2 more.
My personal Weller gig history
As I mentioned, I saw him a couple years back solo.
Prior to that I saw him in a benefit gig for the miner's strike in London in about 85 (right on! up the workers! etc.).
The FIRST Jam gig, however, was when I was about 15 (1979) and they played in Bath. I could not afford a ticket, but it was really hot that summer and they left the skylights and windows open so me and a couple of mates cycled down to the Pavilion and enjoyed the concert (and a bottle or two of cider) from outside. Ah the halcyon days of youth . . .

Braggart. Though when in the UK I did live near Woking - enough to make me swoon. How often does Woking have that effect?

I should imagine it was a first for them.
