hi anybody know the way to start processing for my 18 year old daughter to come to America for 1 year and work legally ?
She has just passed her A levels and did ok . However she plans to take a year off before she starts and they will hold her place.

I have a green card ( 2 years away from Citizenship)

I'm married to an American (2 years +)

hopefully i dodn't need to go the way of a K2 visa ...

thanks for any help
What about doing the J visa, Ant? She would have to study too I believe. Not sure how it works but I know quite a few students do this at my college.

Had another thought. What about the visas needed for summer jobs. Don't they normally last 6months or a year? I have a feeling I came across a website that dealt with this type of thing. Maybe if you do search on the web for summer jobs in the US you might find something.
She could consider getting a J1 visa through BUNAC or a similar organization - I'm not sure how long she'd be able to work in the US for but it is a popular option for those who have just graduated university - the work is considered an 'internship' and should be related to the degree she earned and/or the kind of work she wishes to pursue.

Alternatively, if she is up for living and working in New York City there's an internship programme called Mountbatten that allows for UK citizens to live and work in the US for 1 year - and take classes to earn a Certificate in International Business Practice. Check out http://www.mountbatten.org to find out more information. I participated in the programme in 2000 and found it to be a fulfilling experience.
