As I mentioned in another post a few weeks ago, I bought a few Brit albums that Q rated as the best ever.
I love Beggars Banquet by the Rolling Stones, it's quality through and through - I play it all the time and I think it would be just as succesful if it was released today. The song that Coca-Cola are using right now for their C2 drink "Can't always get what you want..." is brilliant too.
Revolver by the Beatles on the other hand got tiresome pretty quickly. A few of the songs are undeniably great - but from start to finish there are a couple of weak tracks. McCartney has gone down in my opinion as of late - once I started looking at which songs were his compared to Lennon's I really started to see who the true genius was in that group.
I'm having a hard time believing this because my Dad was a Beatles man through and through (whole family from Liverpool) and I spent my youth listening to the Red and Blue albums. And of course being a Northerner I feel like I'm betraying my roots.
But the Rolling Stones just seem to have more dimension in their music, and definitely sound more timeless. Maybe I need to try a few more albums - any recommendations?
