Over dramatic??

Yeah just a bit !! wink
Ive just been looking on the BBC website and according an article "Eminent world scientists have voted Ridley Scott's Blade Runner the best science fiction film to date."

I must admit Ive always been a fan of Bladerunner. I think its the kind of film noir quality which it has, the timeline maybe a bit out but the premise of the film with genetic engineering is becoming more and more of a reality, and I really liked the sountrack by Vangelis. But, what do I know? Ive got an anorak a thermas flask and an upcoming job as a security guard to look foward to wink

What your favourite sci-fi film?
Is it any of these -

SCIENTISTS' TOP 10 SCI-FI FILMS
1. Blade Runner (1982)
2. 2001 A Space Odyssey (1968)
3. Star Wars (1977)/Empire Strikes Back (1980)
4. Alien (1979)
5. Solaris (1972)
6. Terminator (1984)/T2 Judgement Day (1991)
7. Day the Earth Stood Still (1951)
8. War of the Worlds (1953)
9. The Matrix (1999)
10. Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977)

I always liked an old black and white english film called The Day The Earth Caught Fire. Any films you like or is sci-fi a load of hog-wash wink

Does Mars Attack count lol lol lol
All of the above, different order, don't think I've actually seen Solaris, (yet, the wonders of Netflix)
You missed Aliens (Though don't mention the rest of the series).

I really like Fifth Element, another sci-fi comedy.

Equilibrium, Forbidden Planet, Minority Report...................

Edit Oh and Gattica, I'm sure eminent world scientists would like this vision of the future (and it's got Uma Thurmon in it )
I agree Blade Runner is just about my favorite film, but the book is almost unbloodyreadable

Very loose connection between the plot and themes of the book and film, I liked it though.

All of those films on BoC's list, I rate - except for T2 and I haven't seen Solaris so I can't comment on that one.

Some of my other favourites are Tron, Twelve Monkeys, Lost Horizon, Day of the Triffids, The Blob, The Thing, The "original" Time Machine - not the one with that wotsisname Aussie actor!

I liked The Fifth Element too.

ukm
I'm afraid I haven't seen any of those top 10 films... oops

I did listen to War of the Worlds on the radio though, but I don't think it came from 1953.
Blade Runner definitely, then fifth element and twelve monkeys and of course the never to be forgotten 2001.

Howabout Total Recall? That was based on a Philip K. Dick novel too....
Forbidden Planet was a good call Beest, wasnt it supposed to be an adaptaion of The Tempest by some english geezer?

I actually went to see Tron at the pictures when it was released!!
Did anyone like Starman with Geoff Bridges?

Me too! :o Loved that film - it looks really dated now, though.

ukm

Some of those from the first list i like better than others

Alien.
War the worlds .
Star wars.
Close encounters.
2001 .
Day the earth stood still.

Some others on a slightly differant slant on the future..

Clockwork orange .
Men in black (more of a comedy rip of i supposes )

Then there is the other sub genre like .

Jurassic park.
The lost world .
"The Attack of the Killer Tomatoes"........ wink

Haven't read the book though, wonder if that Billy bloke had Robbie the Robot in it too. :)

Total Recall is a good fun film.

George Lucas has digitally re-edited THX 1138 it's going on limited release in 20 cities, one of which is Ann Arbor , not sure if I'll try and get to it.

reading THX1138 reminded me of another cult sci-fi film which never made it in the top ten. Anyone ever see Darkstar? I'm not entirely sure about this but I know John Carpenter directed it but I think it may have been his first film?

I'm not entirely sure why (maybe because I see them at the pictures) but I did used to like to watch The Black Hole (the disney movie) and probably my most guilty pleasure is watching Star Trek- The Motion Picture. Confession over wink

Yes, yes, and come on get serious

remember going to the cinema to see black hole with those cute robot thingies
I believe Darkstar is a cult classic, I netflixed it, not worth the postage ( also Clerks, but I digress)

Are we playing spot the nerd yet, can't see any from here 8)
