My wife and I would like to bring my mother out to join us for the long-term. Naturally we want to make sure we can get her medical cover and a drivers license, bank account etc.

I am a Permanent Resident and my wife is a US citizen. Does anyone have a suggestion on what visa we could use? It seems as though I cannot sponsor a parent as a Resident... Is there a way my wife can?

Has anyone done this?

I'm not sure if you could sponsor your mum as a permanent resident, but if not maybe you should consider applying for your citizenship-you don't have to denounce your Britain citizenship- then sponsoring her.

She will also have to consider collecting retirement etc, which I believe some members of the board are currently doing.

Get a B1 6 month visa.
she can live 6 months in the UK and 6 months in the USA with you guys.
