I have a mate coming over to see me next week. Does anyone know of a website showing what people can and can't bring foodwise from the UK?
I know a lot of you have frequent visitors. Are US Customs/Immigration really hassling innocent british holidaymakers who want nothing more than to see friends and buy cheap jeans? Or is it all just the press making mountains out of molehills?
Cheers. D

Rest easy, Marmite and pickled onions are ok.
Thanks Monster, I was looking up the US customs website to no avail.

do you not know how to find out? :P
Now, now, girls! lol wink
So does this mean I can't get my visitors to bring over Heinz beans and sausage and OXO cubes???? -?
Debs x -?
Probably not. Though beans come in a can, I'm sure they're ok. But I was sort of angling for a different type of answer as well as the one from Monster, ie; what have your friends/relatives got away with bringing in.
Atora shredded suet. But then he is a priest with a dog collar and all. D
My parents brought over several tins of beans and rice pudding on their last trip over in May.
"Devon knows how they make it so creamy."
Beans and sausages are not allowed, neither is OXO or suet. Have snuck in the last two. Best method be totally upfront about what you have, just act like you are convinced it has no meat content. Harder to do with sausages.
That said my sister and family arrived yesterday. Agriculture were OK at Chicago, but then their cases got "delayed" on the transfer to Detroit -they were eventually delivered at midnight and had been completely searched. Almost all packets had been opened (weetabix included) and everything was thrown back in willy nilly. They stopped short of opening the foil packets of formula, but opened all the cardboard boxes they were in. evil

This is soooo funny, Annie because my dad brought over bacon once and I swear the only reason he got away with it is because he is a vicar!
Mum and dad brought bisto granules this time for me which are obviously not allowed because they are the beef ones, not vegetarian. They also brought paxo stuffing, HP sauce, black jacks, flying saucers, cola bottles - I think that was it. In the past they have brough over custard powder, mushy peas and marmite and a friend brought over a jar of Bovril for us.
