Does anyone in the Twin Cities area fancy a pint some time?
Not in the Twin Cities, or even within striking distance, but welcome to Britnet -we'll keep you company until they show up ...I know there's a few out there somewhere! )
Scramble used to live in that neck of the woods until he left for IL.
Yeah, where were you a year and a half ago? I lived in Roseville/North St Paul and worked in Minneapolis. I'm actually passing through on Friday/Saturday on my way up to the Boundary Waters and hope to catch the Twins game. We'll be a little rushed though so no time for pints otherwise I'm afraid.
I did know a British girl there but I don't have any contact details for you I'm afraid. Your best bet might be to go to Brits pub. The guvnor is a decent chap too and you can buy treats like double deckers and PG tips tea as well as have a steak and kidney pie or fish and chips! D

Er, England :)

We're on our way up to Lake Vermillion on Friday, actually.... Cabin at the weekend? Heavens! I'm going native!

I intend to. My wife went there once (before we met) and liked it, and fancies a return visit.

I found some mail-order companies via this site that will ship me orange squash. Yay! Although at $5 a litre (oh, those crazy metric measurements...) it pains me slightly. Sadly it's all Robinsons stuff, and I really prefer Tesco's own-brand. Still, just have to rough it ;)

Nah, we're roughing it in tents in the wilderness, living off fresh walleye, berries and dried camping food.

Going to be doing that too, eventually. When time permits. Still, nice to have a cabin available as a base :)

A friend of mine once described portaging as "walking around with a very large, heavy hat" :D

The main problem I have at the moment is that I need to get a Minnesota ID to get a fishing licence - no driver's licence is a bit of a drawback....

Must... pass... driver's... test....

Or just get a State ID card...
That's what I meant by "get a Minnesota ID". But that wasn't possible when I just pitched up to a bait shop to get my licence. The point was moot, really, considering that I couldn't remember my Social Security Number (

Still, I have to get round to getting to a DPS office and getting an ID card, since my driving skills aren't improving at any great rate.

It just never dawned on my (at least until now) that my permanent resident's card wasn't a state ID.
Those hats can give a headache when you walk into a low branch on the portage. It's like wearing a bell on your head -?

When you do your driving test, you'll do well to stay away from the facility off County Road I up the 35. It's like trumpton, all made up with mini-one way systems and little signs. Makes it really hard to follow the rules when there's no traffic to follow.

I don't mind, I am always flying thru the airport on my way back home!!!

I'd fancy a pint sometime DEC -- really like Brits even if it's not quite the same as a pub back in UK. (best pint in town) Also any footie fans here who would be interested in getting together to watch the football- not as much fun on your own- is it? BTW 38 yo lad here- born in Essex-mostly lived in Suffolk. cheers )
Indec- my apologies for getting your name wrong previously--- noticed your reference to Orange squash in your post. Thought you might want to know that "Irish On Grand" in st paul has a bit of a selection of
British groceries including something very similar to squash (it's an Irish brand don't recall name but tastes just like the stuff you get in England)--also English candy bars -biccies- Irish sausages etc. -- prices are a little dear but to the best of knwledge it's about the only place in town you can find Brit groceries (apart from SMALL selection at Brits and Birds custard and weetabix at Lunds grocery store)-- just tossing this info out in case someone finds it of use- cheers all
