So..our visas are currently being renewed, or should I say extended. Anyone know if they will be done by the date which is Jan 2005 or whether there is a major backlog? I always get the impression of backlogs from posts on here about such things..
Haven't extended a visa, but generally you can find out how long these things are likely to take by looking up the processing times for the centre which is handling your application.
Ours took longer than the date the visa ran out but you have so many days after the date of the visa expiration before you have to start to panic. Don't know how long that is off hand (I have a feeling its around 8 months or 180 days) and hubby is out at the minute so I can't ask him. If you need to know the number of days then let me know. )
Our visas expired at the end of last September and we applied for extension in the beginning of August. Finally got them renewed in Toronto in November (21st I think). Got our advance parole in February this year though so that has now taken place of the visa.

Ours expire on august 17th. We put in for renewal at the start of June, got approved at the end of June, and were able to get the passports off to St Louis before they stopped doing "renew by post" on July 16th.

As long as you pay for premium processing expect it to take about 3 weeks to get approval from the BCIS, and a couple of days out of the country to get the stamp in the passport.
Well apart from the leaving the country bit that sounds like good news on the visa frnt. Thanks all.
Our H1b / H4 were due to take 5 months to be renewed according to the offical site, but we got them changed to 'Premium Processing' and they only took 7 days start to finish which was very quick as they quote 15 working days.

Ben's right with the 180 'grace' period if renewing.
Company HR are sorting our visas out, they are currently saying we only need to go to DC to renew....
I thought so long as you had applied there was no problem with the visa running out. My I-94 was expired before I went up to Vancouver to get my new H1B.
