Sorry for the short notice.

At 4pm CST today I will be doing a couple of speed and configuration experiments. This may make Britnet unavailable for short durations.

For the more technical minded, is it possible for a web server to use compress web pages 'on the fly'. These are uncompressed with compatable browers, which most are these days.

With a compressed page the resulting file is smaller, and therefore quicker, especially for those on slow links.

I'm not sure that the server is configured to take full advantage of this, so I'll be doing some minor experiments.

Nah, its a Bush style outage. Doesn't give a hoot what anyone else thinks....he'll just do it anyway.

Testing is done, thank you.

Bush style outages are adjusted and fixed automatically with no tinkerings needed to bring up-to-date data on board.

Nah.

A Bush-style outage would occur in secret and then be denied repeatedly for several days, before public opinion would force it to make an about-turn and report exactly what it was doing and why.

No one would believe it of course.....

How did it work out Nigel, btw?

Things are set to their optimal configuration as far as I can tell.
