Since the recent revelation of BSE in cows in the US, I have stopped eating beef. I know there's a million to one chance that I would be affected in any way by eating beef....but looking at those cows put me right off....not to mention my niece is currently dying of vCJD. It's an absolutely devastating disease. I have stopped my 10 yr old daughter from eating beef since from what I understand, younger people are more susceptible to the disease.
Anyone else stopped eating beef?
I've given up giving blood.......... D
Not that we ate much to begin with but we have always bought, and still buy organic beef when we have it.
Same goes for poultry etc, or another other foods.

Nope, I didnt even give up eating beef when the epidemic was at it's height in the UK!
Dont have beef all that ofeten, either have it in the form of Burgers or Filet Mignon and the BSE is not going to affect that.
Sorry to hear about your neice (

Gave up eating beef and all meat and fish back in '91 when the scare came to the UK. Thought I'd 'go back' one day but never did and prolly never will.
No, but don't eat that much really, sorry to hear about your neice cry
sorry to hear about your niece (
But in my situation, I would eat more beef given the opportunity, 48 days to go wink
I think you can worry too much about what is right and wrong for you. Life is a gamble, and you just have to go for it. If it is your time to go then it is. I'm going to eat what I like and what happens, happens.
Not that I don't feel bad for what your neice is going through.

Thanks Myasibe....it is such a tragedy and so sad to see her this way, just because she ate alot of the food she loved. :(
Burger meat is considered a prime source for beef contaminated with BSE.
My niece loved hamburgers and (Birdseye) beef burgers as a kid!!

I hear you Morph and I do agree with your philosophy. However, just knowing that beef is the cause for my niece to be suffering in this way, really puts me off. Actually, when my niece was initially diagnosed with vCJD (in England), although I significantly reduced my beef intake I did indulge once in a while. However, after learning contaminated beef had entered the US market, I stopped.
I eat it here but only ate second-mortgage-organic in the UK after the mad cow thing, it probably didn't make any difference, but it made me feel better wink
I'm very sorry to hear about your neice Mia.
