Southampton have targeted Plymouth boss Paul Sturrock to replace Gordon Strachan at St Mary's.
What say you Mr. Pilgrim? bit of a crapper no?
Saints nicked Dave Jones off Stockport in 1997, I know how this will feel if you lose him.
This has been floating about since Christmas but it looks like it will be a done deal shortly. He wants to manage in the Premiership and I think we all knew he would leave sooner or later - he's really a class apart and probably the best manager I've ever seen in terms of tactics, man-management skills and signing absolute bargains that turn out to be gold.
I wish he would stay until the end of this season though - it is going to be a little demoralising to see him leave with us top by 4 points and only 12 matches left. The timing is quite abysmal.
Money talks and all that but whatever happened to loyalty? Silly, antiquated ideal I suppose. Sturrock had that clause in his contract and I doubt he would have signed the latest one at Christmas without it. At least Argyle will screw Southampton for compensation and it is that which is holding up the deal - otherwise, it would be official by now. He was resigned until 2008 but like that means anything.
I don't wish any ill on Sturrock - he was a fantastic breath of fresh air that our club badly needed and it really has to be his decision when it is time to leave. I just wish it could have been in the close-season if it had to happen. I am sure the two teams below us are rubbing their hands in glee right now as they know it is the only hope they had of overhauling what is clearly the best team in their division for the second season in three years.
No idea what happens now but it's all a bit sickening really.

Doncaster manager Dave Penney I reckon. :D And before the end of the season so it'll really screw them up. Hands off Ian Atkins...
Great quote I saw on an Argyle forum today (all doom and gloom there of course):
"A very sad day today. When I heard the news it was like my wife had told me she was having an affair! (she wasn't/isn't)"

Those names won't make it much beyond calling the switchboard and asking for an application.
The assistant manager (ex-Argyle player Kevin Summerfield) will run the team until the end of the season - what an opportunity, eh?
After that, no idea - maybe he will get the job full-time but he seems a much better assistant from when he has run the team on his own in the past. He was caretaker manager before Sturrock was appointed in 2000.
We seem to do best when we get Scottish ex-players and managers so perhaps we will look north of the border again.
Well at least Stelesque is getting what I consider to be one of the best managers in the game for her team <sob> :(
How about Hoddle?
Not Scottish enough - and a complete loonie.
Someone like Alan Curbishley would be good - he seems to be a decent bloke and has taken Charlton to the Premiership, despite his lack of Scottishness.
Hope he doesn't start signing up Argyle players for the Saints. (

Doubtful - I think they are exellent Div 2 players and most could cut it in Div 1 but Premiership is a huge leap.
Only our #2 keeeper, "Super" Luke McCormick, (actually #1 since last autumn) would probably be of interest as he is very young but extremely talented. I think the Saints have two decent keepers already though so not likely to want a third.
I think we are waiting with baited breath to see whether Sturrock takes his coaching staff and physio - that would really gut us but I think it is unlikely before the end of the season.
Sorry to be the bearer of grim news but it is all true Paul Sturrock is the new manager of Southampton. The Beeb story is here

I hate to see a team going in the right direction with a decent manager off to a Premiership club. Maybe in a year someone is going to steal Gary Mills from Notts! But I think we will be safe

Where have you been? We established that on Wednesday/Thursday but thanks for the late-breaking "news" :D
I love how Bristol City's manager said it would have an adverse effect on us.
Cue us drawing away at Notts County and Bristol City losing 2-0 to the team 2nd from bottom.
Clearly having Danny Wilson and his mouth of Joe Kinnear-ic proportions has an adverse effect on Bristol City :D
Ok.. Pilgrim between me and you I have some more breaking news. I hear Trevor Francis will be the first million pound player in the transfer market next week. But keep it under your hat wink
My claim to fame when it comes to Plymouth is that I helped design the CCTV system that went into the ground. I remember on one cold and freezing day getting a tour of the box where they do the commentary and stuff. I am not sure if it's changed but it used to resemble something from that 70's show!
Seeing as I can't be of any help in this forum I am buggerin off to the Horse forum.

I bet it still looks a lot like that. That whole building is like a tiny little house in the Barn Park corner and there's a one-way glass window that the cops hide behind while they are keeping an eye on the fans.
I got a tour of the new stadium when I was back there as a sponsor at Christmas - when the grandstand and Chisholm Lounge are replaced with the last phase, its going to look really great.
Your lot and my lot shared a good point each yesterday. County look like they are going to pull away from the danger zone easily.
Bugger. Looks like our boss Atkins is off to Bristol Rovers... ( Revoke the 'Curse of Manc' - I won't say anything bad about Stockport again..... -?
