Born in London in 1957. Lived for first year of life in Essex, so technically an Essex girl.
Spent childhood and adolescence living and growing up in the Garden of England. Father died when I was 13.
Went to College in 1975 to train to be a teacher.
Dropped out in Jubilee Year (1977) and went to work in that big building on the Thames which used to be the London County Hall, right beside where the London Eye now stands.
Having discovered that I hated commuting, hated admin and was no good at it, I returned to college in 1979 and qualified as a teacher in 1980.
Returned home and taught in Kent for three years before going to Germany as a teacher to Army children in Munster. Loved it.
Mother died 1986, so returned to UK to live in the house in 1987.
1988 feeling old and lonely (at 31) tried computer dating with "Dateline". Interesting. Found my friend a husband in Singles Magazine (they have now been married 12 years)and then joined Mensa just because I could.
Met American hubby through a Mensa personal ad and married him in England in 1992. Arrived here Dec 31 1992 with green card in hand.
Now have three children and a dog, have made some good friends and have finally settled and accepted that we will probably live here forever.
After birth of number three, we let our house and went to live in Delft, Nederland for a year. Loved it.
Britnet has helped me a great deal over the past few months and I am glad to know that I am not the only British twit around!
