For me has to be Charlotte Coleman -"Scarlet" in Four Weddings and a Funeral, who died of an asthma attack in 2001. She also starred in "Oranges are Not the Only Fruit", and -for those young enough to remember- Worzel Gummidge.
She was a fantastic actress, on the brink of attaining superstardom.
Do you have any other nominations?
Many promising showbiz personalities die young, but it seems to be usually at their own hands (-overdose, drunk-driving, suicide, gang warfare....). To me, their deaths are more regrettable than tragic. I would also exclude death from old age from the "tragic" category.
Funnily enough we watched Four Weddings.....last night and I was only remarking how sad it was that she died so young. I remember her as Marmalade Atkins in the children's TV series when she was a mere stripling.
Can't think of any more recent ones but the one that I remember very well was Richard Beckinsale who was 32 when he tragically died from a heart attack. He was married to actress/writer/producer/director Judy Loe at the time and they had a young daughter, Kate, who has since become a Hollywood star. Samantha Beckinsale, who starred in "London's Burning" was, I believe, from a previous relationship but is the spitting image of him.
Debs x )
For me it is probably Kirsty Macoll, who was decapitated by a speed boat while swimming in the sea, on holiday, in 1998. I loved her albums and still think she had a lot to offer us.
I was also very sad when Ian Dury died, although it was somewhat more expected.
Outside of the last ten years I still often think of Richard Beckinsdale, who co-starred in both Porridge and Rising Damp. He died of a heart attack in 1979, aged just 31.
Robert Palmer 54 from a heart attack.
I agree about Charlotte Coleman, dead at 33. I also saw her in a Inspector Morse episdode and a film called 'Sweet revenge' aka 'Revengers Comedies'. she died from an asthma attack. Apparently it was her first. She was upstairs and her inhaler was in another room. Tragic.
check out her filmography on IMDB.COM, makes quite interesting reading. Last thing I saw her in, in the UK was 'Giving Tongue' about the Hunting ban.
Most tragic to me was John Lennon, senseless and needless end to his life at the age of 40.
Bob Marley's demise from cancer when only in his 30's, and Ronnie Laine from MS at 51, all of these were such talented musicians (
(sorry monster I just noticed you said last 10 yrs!)
I thought about people who died ahead of their time and couldn't think of many who didn't kill themselves. It seems my generation of famous people were adamant to die before they were 30.
I suppose Jeff Buckley and Bill Hicks loosely fit those who didn't kill themselves. And I was very upset when Michael Kelly of the Atlantic died.
some of the worst not nescasarily in order and spanning more then 10 years
John Lennon .the world was robbed of a great talent .
George Harrison same .
Jimmy hendricks same .
Marilyn monroe sad and a waste of a beautifull women .
And Elvis no need to say more.
on a lighter note .
John Holmes had a LOT to offer -)
.
Well this is a cheery thread! Right now I can't think of anyone though.
