Tivo seems to be one of those things that nobody seems to think is a good idea until they actually get it. I don't know of anybody who has Tivo who doesn't absolutely adore it and wonder how they ever got by without it.
I think that it is especially useful for people who have kids. You just have to record every episode of spongebob squarepants and they can watch them over and over and over and over again whenever they want to.
I don't have it myself but it is on the wish list. Lets hope that the advertisers, who are moaning that it is interfering with their profit making, don't succeed in their plans to scupper it.

Well all I can say is those kind of people must sit glued to their tellys all day whether or not they have Tivo.
What I have found from having Tivo for 2 weeks.......
I can watch the programs I watch every week whenever I wish to view them.
I can search 2 weeks in advance by time/channel/catagory.
For instance I like to watch the ITV news.....It is broadcast at 6.30pm,10.30pm and 12.30am everyday.....I can choose whether I want to view all three or just the latest one.
I have this set up so that it tapes as a season pass and tapes first runs (no repeats)....When I have finished then I just delete.
Say I want to watch Ice Age....I do a search and it tells me all the times that it is on throughout the next 2 weeks, you can do the searches with titles, directors and Movies stars.
Or......I am flicking through the program guide and see something I wouldnt mind watching....I just press a few buttons and voila!....It is set to record just like that!
I dont find that I sit and watch telly for longer than I did before I got Tivo, though I would say that when I do sit down I am able to watch from a list of things that I have recorded previously and so have better quality viewing.
I am on a four month Direct TV offer at the moment where I get all the movies stations for a cut rate price so when that ends and I just go back to basic channels I will have even less to watch....But whilst I have the movies I am having fun )
In my opinion Tivo is well worth the $4.99 per month fee that Direct TV charges, though I am not sure that I would pay the full $13.00 fee per month that Tivo charges on their standalone receivers, not unless I had the full compliment of movies and programs anyway.
