I noticed in one of the movie threads a couple of people mentioned using Netflix, I have been considering it and wondered what peoples experience was.
What is the turnaround like, the availbiilty of new titles/ obscure 'classics', etc.? have they ever had to complain about billing, lost films etc.?

I found out yesterday that Walmart is doing a competing service, same deal but you can have 2,3 or 4 films on the go ($15.54, 18.76, 21.94)

From an old thread:

OK, this opens a whole new can of worms. We're members of NetFlix

Basically for $20 a month, we can rent as many DVDs as we can watch (3 out at a time). If anyone wants to try it I have promotional codes, email me if you want one.

The thing is, since you've already paid, you can rent what you like - even obscure stuff.

Hey Nigel, wonder if Netflix would sponsor Britnet or become an affiliate shopping site?

We're members of netflix. Our turn around time is about three days and we can rent lots of foreign(British) films and stuff the local store either doesn't have or has Disnified(ie removed references to God and use of the F word.)
We returned one film, a documentary and they never got it. They were very good. I think you have to be a regular loser to get in their bad books. They give you the option on paying for films that get lost.
I wouldn't be without them, we have only basic cable and I hate commercials, so it works really well for us. lol
What Annie says.

I've been a member for about 3 years now and it gets better, not worse.

Recently, they opened a distribution center about 20 miles up the road from me so now, the turnaround time is down to 2 days - just how long first class mail takes.

I haven't rented a movie from a store for all those years and don't miss the late fee charges.

The only drawbacks are that very rarely, you get a broken or cracked DVD and unless you are one of the first few to get your hands on a DVD, it can often be scratched or dirty. I tend to clean them all up as I put them in the player and then there are no problems - you could as easily get that problem with one from a store I guess. Like Annie says though, if you ever have a problem with a disc, you just report it on their website and they send you another one out, even before you have sent the broken one back sometimes.
Been a member for some time now and i find their service very satisfactory .

One of the good things is as somebody else pointed out if you scan there list of movies you will find old classics , and many *fringe * films that you wont find in blockbusters or your local independent movie store .

Yes i have had a few damaged and hard to play disc ,but i think thats the nature of the bisiness poeple dont handle them with care and they soon get scratched and sometimes are unplayable .

My turnround time is about a week (they have a warehouse in houston ) i send them back early mon morn and usually get at least 2 by fri post .

Average movies rented a month is about 10 so at $20 a month thats only $2 a shot much cheaper and more conveniant than the local store .

I know im not the first to say it but if anybody wants to join I can get then a gift certificate to try netflix for free (tell a friend programe )

Can get more than 3 a time if you wish by paying more , $25 i think gets you 6 . but 3 is more than enought per week for me .
Beest - you could have just tapped her on the shoulder, you know! wink lol

As everyone has said before me. The service has greatly improved over the last couple of years, which is a direct result of opening new distribution centres.

A couple of DVDs have got lost in the mail and they were like lightning replacing them.

They have an outstanding selection. My only problem is finding the time to watch them )
I loooove Netflix, so easy, and great selection of movies.

Have to agree with the Netflix is great sentiment. A word of warning though. To keep it cost effective you have to keep turning around the DVDs reasonably quickly. It is easy to become complacent with the 'no late fees' thing and keep hold of the DVDs for weeks. Trouble is that you soon find out that you have rented a couple of movies in a month and spent $20.

Thats what I'm calculating, I can just about squeeze in one film on a Friday night, so 4 or 5 a month is all I require. I like the sound of the large catalogue, and not having to haul out to a a store, pick form what they've got, and then haul back the next day to return it. :(

I'm thinking of getting another Internet connection in the Family room (or WiFi :D ) so I can comunicate with her

Hold out for a few days. I've just signed up for an affiliate site. No wonder there are so many popup ads for Netflix )

Anyhow, if I'm approved, and you sign up via a link on Britnet, you'll help towards the cost. I'll also give you a promo code that gives you a free month (In fact any member can do that, it's on the inside of the mailer) - but hang on until I'm set up.

Regards
Nigel
Beest says any progress on the affiliate thing?
I'm going to send them an email on Monday. Please give me a couple more days, say until Wednesday and then if no go then just go ahead and sign up and I'll sue 'em )

Regards
Nigel
