Didnt know about this till today -:

Apparently in 1938 the team were instructed to perfrom the salute by the Foreign Office. Part of Chamberlains appeasement and a symbol that Britian did not see Germany's anexxing of Austria as indicative of her being a pariah state.

Anyway, apparently there will be a BBC show called Fascism And Football on in Britian. Shame we wont see it.

Story from-:

I knew about it, Stanley Matthews was interviewed about it awhile ago and he said while he was there he thought Hitler seemed like a 'nasty' piece of work. The FA ordered the team to make the salute and told the players they would never play for England if they didn't.
Matthews said a couple of players did their own 'two fingered salute' to the Fuhrer before their ordered salute.
