Hi,

I'm currently desperate to move to the USA. My girlfriend (american citizen) and I want to be together (she's in the states at uni) and I have always wanted to move to the states. I'm an engineer with 3 years experience and I've been applying to firms since last year. I have a few I'm speaking to but I wanted to know if theres any other way to get over to the states quickly besides the H1-B route or by marrying her??

Can any body help and mayube give me some pointers on who to talk to and what to do??

Thanks

Andrew
Hi there, welcome to Britnet.

I'm no immigration expert, but I think you've pretty much covered your options -marriage or your own work visa. Good luck. )
I was in pretty much the exact same boat as you......I didn't even get answers to my pleas for a job and sponsorship.....because the firms don't want the extra hassle of sponsoring you if they can find someone even half as qualified stateside.
We got married and here I am. My first employers told me as much They said that when they got the letter from a guy in England they just supposed I wasn't serious or that I'd never really come here.
Once you're engaged, you can start writing letters and they might take you more seriously but they'll probably still tell you to write them back when you're in the area.

Good luck
George

p.s. what part of the country will you move to?
Thanks for that.

I hear what you're saying about the companies not willing to commit. The problem is that I am no place, emotionally or financially to get married yet. I want to move to the DC area. I guess I just have to hope for a lucky break.

Andrew
I would concentrate on Brit companies with offices there.
